Bring The Outdoors Into Your Home With Pixers Wall Murals

It is certainly no secret how much we value the importance of the outdoors and our natural environment. Even when we are at home, we still like to be reminded of the world outside! One obvious way to do this is through wall art.

For example, PIXERS have a lovely selection of natural wall murals that would brighten up your home and give it a nice relaxing vibe. There are lots to choose from, such as these beautiful ocean scenes that I really love.

The website describes the self-adhesive wall murals as ‘tear- and crease-resistant.’ Apparently they are easy to stick on and can be removed then relocated several times too; the website states “you can easily install them unassisted, and then move them from place to place as often as you please, whenever you want – you’ll see how simple this is.”

We are in a rented home so generally we are very limited in making our own interior design choices. However, I wonder if these wall murals could be a solution to this? They can be used to style your interior in the way that you personally want and transform ‘your’ home, even if it is not really yours. As long as they are easy to remove and don’t leave a mark, I think maybe they could be a good answer for renters? But whether renting or not though, they sound like a really simple and effective way to create your own unique look.

The photos can also be edited and customised to really make them feel like they are more your own too. Or you can even use your own photos, so the possibilities are endless! I like the idea that you can properly make them into your own individual creation.

The wall murals can also be ordered in a range of sizes to suit your room. Entire walls can also be covered with photo wallpaper, like this example.

There is even a washable version that can be wiped down easily; handy for family homes. They also state they are eco-friendly and ‘print in the latest ecological HP Latex Printing technology. The inks we use are odorless and 100% safe.’

If nature art is not your thing, there are many other types of designs too. For example, I spotted some really funky abstract art designs and patterns whilst I was browsing the site. It seems like there is something for everyone! I have never tried these but it sounds like they might be worth checking out.

Home Security Tips For Peace of Mind

It’s that time of year when people are thinking about booking a holiday, and starting to plan ahead for their next trip. As stated on Police.uk homes with no security measures in place are five times more likely to be burgled than those with simple security measures. Therefore if you spend alot of time on days out or travelling, or if you are simply planning  your next holiday, it is important to think about home security. There are many ways to leave your home more secure when unattended. Here are some top tips for home security to leave you feeling reassured while away from home…

Simple Measures

  • Make sure all doors and windows are locked, including gates.
  • Leave keys and valuables out of sight.
  • Be part of a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme or informally agree with neighbours to look out for each others’ properties.
  • Have a visible security system in place, such as this Panasonic outdoor camera.

Night Security

  • Arrange for curtains to be drawn at night then opened in the morning.
  • Make sure you have good outdoor lighting. Outdoor solar lights are relatively cheap and eco friendly.
  • Put indoor lights on a timer or use an app to control them.

Holidays/ Travelling

  • Arrange for Royal Mail to hold your post using their keepsafe service. (Or ask a trusted friend/ neighbour to keep it safe for you).
  • Have a neighbour park their vehicle in your driveway.
  • Avoid using pet sitting companies that advertise their services on their vehicle – this also alerts potential thieves that you are away!
  • Avoid talking about specific details of your travel plans publicly or posting about it on social media.
  • Remember all of the simple security measures and night security tips above also apply here too.

What Do Parents Do To Unwind Around The Home?

I mentioned in a recent post about the importance of having time to myself as a parent, and what an achievement it can be to actually find time to relax! But what are my favourite ways to unwind at home? A few things come to mind; I enjoy sitting in the garden, meditating or doing some yoga, or chilling in the living room on the sofa either writing or watching TV.

Rattan Direct are conducting a survey about how parents unwind at home, and they will share the results with us soon. If you would take a moment to complete the survey, that would be really helpful, thank you.

The survey is in three parts:

    1. How do parents unwind around the home?

    2. How are you going to celebrate Christmas this year?

    3. Has Brexit actually affected your spending habits around the home and garden?

Part one I already answered, but I did leave something out earlier! One of my very favourite things to do to unwind is to have my own little silent disco once Squiggle has gone to bed- I stick on headphones so I can listen to the music as loud as I want and dance around the living room!

Ooh, and they mentioned the C word in part two! Given it’s now practically November I am very much starting to think about Christmas now and get my head in that zone. Christmas tends to be very low key for us, to meet Squiggle’s needs. We try not to overwhelm her with too much going on or too many visitors, so we spend Christmas day at home and just have one or two family members pop over for a short time to wish a Merry Christmas, spend some time together and exchange gifts. Most of our family lives fairly local anyway, so nobody has far to travel, and we probably see them just as much, if not more, during the rest of the year compared to Christmas. We also do lots of festive days out in the lead up to Christmas too though, so there a nice balance!

As for Brexit, I have been trying not to think too much about it to be honest. It hasn’t affected my spending around the home and garden as yet, but who knows how I will feel in future. I do think house prices have been affected though, as I know a few friends are having problems with that. Let’s hope it settles soon. But for me personally, there has not really been any difference.

    What are your thoughts?
