Introduction to Paguro
Named after and inspired by the hermit crab; Paguro (much like their namesake) is all about taking products and repurposing them. Their mission is to create well-made, stylish products using upcycled components, such as reclaimed wood, barrels, seat belts, tyres and bike chains. They work with various designers worldwide to create unique, handmade, eco-friendly homeware and fashion items for both men and women. Some of the products in their range include; necklaces, earrings, bracelets, bags, belts, cufflinks, wallets and purses, keyrings, bottle openers, fruit bowls, coasters, pet collars and pencil cases. These imaginative pieces would make a lovely gift idea for any occasion.
You can shop Paguro here. Paguro’s collection is also stocked at various locations worldwide, including at Tate Modern and Eden Project.
Paguro takes an open stance against the decrease in lastability that comes with fast fashion and consumer culture, stating that they adopt a high-standard approach which takes the required level of time and effort to ensure durable products. They also make sure that fair trade principles are followed every step of the way. Their vegan products are PETA approved too. At the heart of this company is environment, sustainability and creativity.
I particularly focused on the necklace range when browsing their website. The upcycled rubber items, made from reclaimed inner tubes, are absolutely striking; they are so creatively designed with some intricate details. I also love their pieces made from old skateboards too; a cool throwback to younger years!
Another of their pretty necklaces (featured in the image above) is made from reclaimed wood. It comes in four different colour designs which represent sea views, poppies in the field, the jungle and sunsets. Of course, being handmade and from offcuts, no two pieces are the same; making it truly unique. The items are very reasonable priced too; this reclaimed wood necklace is £28.
