If you are a fellow home educator, or even if you are not, you might find the idea of a journal for children to write book reviews a really fun and useful idea. I received a book review journal by Shoohada Khanom to review and I am also running a giveaway for one lucky reader to win any three of her lovely books or journals too! Details of this are at the end of the post. But first, here’s what I thought of the book review journal…
Book Review Journal
The book review journal has 115 pages with space to write various details about each book read, including; the author, title, genre, start date, finish date, characters, plot/storyline, new words, memorable quotes, and any other thoughts. There are also 5 pages at the back to write a list of future books to read. This style journal is suitable for ages 7+ approximately but there is also a simpler version for younger children. There is also a selection of different cover designs to choose from.
What I really like about the idea of a book review journal is that it encourages children to engage more deeply with the books they are reading/ have read, and it supports them in their literacy development. It also provides a fun writing activity for a particular purpose too.
