The (Not So) Little One Tag

I was tagged by Amy & Tots to do this fun quiz with Squiggle. Here are the questions, and her answers…

Lots of things! Having Pierre the seal!!! (Beanie boo cuddly toy). All of my Christmas presents!

What makes you laugh?

When daddy was still dancing after the music stopped!

Who do you love and Why?

Loads of people! I need to think about that question, it’s a very tricky question. Erm… mummy, daddy and the cuddler (a cuddly toy seal) because he jumps for cuddles!

Whats your favourite book?

Sylvanian catalogue

Favourite Food?

Don’t know.

Favourite Song?

I can’t pick one favourite, I love them all! If I had to pick one I would pick the seal song.

All my clothes.

Favourite Tv Programme?

N/A

Favourite Toy?

Big Pierre (the beanie boo cuddly toy seal). I just about picked! Obviously that is just one of my favourites, I love all of my toys!

My Liebster Award Nomination!

The Liebster Award is a virtual award given to bloggers by other bloggers as a way of spreading the blogging love. Huge thanks to Naomi over at Me Becoming Mum for nominating me. I hadn’t heard of it before, but excited to be included, thank you!

Liebster award, blogging award, bloggers, about us, living life our way

The official rules of the Liebster Award are here. Basically, Naomi has written ten questions for me to answer, plus I need to share ten random facts, then I nominate a few more fellow bloggers and write my own questions for them. (Full rules are also below, at the end of this post). So it’s a great way for bloggers to connect and get to know each other, and to welcome newbies into the blogging network. Such a lovely idea!

So here are my ten questions (and answers!)

If you were an animal, what would you be?

Maybe a cat? They are usually well loved (often totally pampered more like!) yet are fiercely independent and avid explorers. Not too many predators to contend with either, but have to be street savvy!

Who do you consider to be your idol?

Tough question! I’m not sure about ‘idol’ per se, I’m not a massive fan of that term, but there are lots of people who inspire me for one reason or another. One example of someone who comes to mind at this moment is Erin Schrode, a leading environmentalist and inspiring politician. Erin has recently attended the UN Climate Change Conference 2016, after peacefully protesting at Standing Rock. She is also the youngest ever person to run for congress. Aside from all of that, she is a major advocate for green living and co-founded Turning Green, which is an amazing non-profit organisation behind the life changing Project Green Challenge. She is truly inspirational!

Sun or Snow?

Both are equally wonderful in their own way!

Which day holds the best memory (or memories) for you?

The day my daughter was born is the first thing that springs to mind.

You’re holding a tea party, and you can pick four famous guests. Who would they be?

Oooh, erm, I would choose people who I think would be really interesting to talk with, rather than because they are famous. But I am struggling to pick four as there are loads of fascinating people I would love to meet, famous or not!

Which movie or TV character would you most like to marry?

Haha, I love this question!

What day of the week do you most look forward to?

I don’t have a favourite. Our home ed lifestyle means we have alot of freedom and can be very flexible, so generally I look forward to them all!

What was your first car? (If you don’t have one, what would your dream car be?)

It was a gold ford fiesta. I got it in the late 90’s and it was an old banger then so goodness knows what year (or decade!) it was actually made lol! It was proper old style!

You are stranded on a desert island. What five items could you not live without?

I assume we have food and water? Do we have clothes?! My daughter (although she isn’t an item obviously!) Erm, can I have my bed?! I’d want art supplies to get creative. Toilet roll haha! Ooh my phone… and a solar powered battery for it!

Tea, coffee, hot chocolate or something else?

Tea definitely. I don’t drink coffee. Or hot chocolate.

Ten Random Facts About Me

  • I don’t have a middle name.
  • I have a small scar on my forehead.
  • I really can’t drink wine, it doesn’t agree with me at all!
  • Part of my c-section stitches had to be left inside me (they were not ones that dissolve so should not be!)
  • I have a weird fear of escalators.
  • I got a 1st degree BEd.
  • I used to have a crush on Philip Schofield when he presented cupboard under the stairs (or whatever it was called!)
  • I have moved 20 times (I think, I may have lost count and missed one or two possibly!)
  • My first pet was a white rabbit called Snowy.
  • My bedtime toy as a child was an orange popple, which I still have. (It no longer sleeps with me though!)

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 27: Place I would Most Like To Visit

Ooh, now this one is easy; I have written about places I would like to visit already, in the About Us section. Check it out to find out my answer!

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 24: Disney Character You Most Identify With

I needed some inspiration for this one so I googled Disney character quizzes to see what it came up with. The first one I found suggested I was most like Mickey Mouse; born leader, problem-solver, good ideas and makes best of things.

Blogtober

Not a bad start! But I found another just to see some other answers. The next one was Mary Poppins… hahaha, Mary Poppins I am not!

Blogtober

I decided to try third time lucky and got Belle; smart, caring, kind, bigger dreamer and a little different. I’ll take that lol 😉

But the Disney Character I relate to most is Pocahontas. She has a wild and free spirit, spends much of her time outdoors, is truly accepting of others and fiercely stands up for what she believes.

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 23: Favourite Time of Year and Why

When I first read this theme, my mind automatically jumped to seasons and I spent ages trying (unsuccessfully!) to pick my favourite. Then I re-read the title and realised it could be any time of year, for any reason, not specifically seasons. But then I figured my mind actually translated it into that for good reason; we spend alot of time outdoors in nature, absorbing our natural environment, observing the seasons and appreciating the ever-changing beauty of our natural world throughout the year. So for me personally, my favourite time of year would be based on that, rather than a special occasion or anything else.

But which is my favourite season then? I genuinely love them all for different reasons. When (and if!) it snows in winter it is so much fun, plus I enjoy the peaceful silence on winter walks. Spring is beautiful, so filled with new life, and brings with it hope for our future. Summer fun, splashing around in water in warm sunshine, it so therapeutic; and the nature all around is so easy to spot too. And then there is autumn, with its beautiful colours and refreshing sense of change. Each is so important to me in its own unique way.

If I really had to pick one? I guess I would go for autumn. I love the changing of the season from summer to autumn, when some days it is warm and others there is a distinct chill in the air. I love the stunning autumn colours and the sound of crisp leaves underfoot. I love hunting for conkers, acorns and sweet chesnuts. And I love how nature teaches us about the beauty of change, to accept so easily when it is time to let go and get ready to embrace the new!

Aside from the seasonal aspect, I admit I do also love it when the schools go back and our favourite spots become peaceful again! But also, last but not least, I choose autumn because I try to live in the moment, and that is where we are at right now. Ask me at a different time of year and you may well get a different answer!

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 19: 10 Favourite Foods

Ok, my 10 favourite foods, meals and places to eat (in no particular order) are as follows:

1. Fruit and veg smoothies- not technically food but given I drink one daily for breakfast it made sense this would be at the top of my list! I generally throw in whatever fruit and veg we already have at home that needs using, rather than follow recipes. I also sometimes freeze fruit and veg bought from fresh if we have extra, so that it will be ok to use for longer- so that often gets chucked in too!

Almond milk, hemp seeds, chia seeds, nutrition, raw food, healthy eating, clean eating, blogtober, living life our way

2. Seeds- I love adding seeds to my smoothies, they are such a quick and easy way to pack in more nutrition. My favourites are chia seeds, hemp seeds and poppy seeds.

3. Bananas- my favourite fruit and my ‘go to’ snack when I need a boost.

4. Popcorn- once reserved for watching movies, this is now just an easy to grab late night snack for me!

5. Crisps- I try to avoid these, I really do. But they are my achilles heel! I generally go for red pringles or kettle crisps.

6. Vegetable stir fry- my favourite dinner at home. Noodles, brocolli, peppers, onions, beansprouts, carrots and any other veg we have thrown in, ideally made with coconut oil… yummy.

7. The Green Kitchen– not a specific food, but a great place to eat delicious vegan food. Highly recommend.

8. Jacket potato with baked beans- I realise this is pretty boring, but I like it because is such a quick and easy meal to grab, so it’s going on my list regardless of how dull it is!

9. Harvester – specifically the new beetroot and halloumi burger with sweet potato fries… SO tasty.

Take-away, restaurant, vegetarian food, nutrition, blogtober, living life our way

10. Ok, so this last one is the final reminiscent of old eating habits and goes against everything else for so many reasons, but I’m going to keep it real and include it anyway lol… salt and pepper chicken from the chinese take-away. I just can’t help it, I love it. Sorry, but it’s going to have to stay on my list!

(And no, I don’t really have a sweet tooth… hence no cakes, biscuits or CHOCOLATE on my list… I know, strange but true!)

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 18: Zodiac Sign (and does it fit)

I was born on 7th September, which makes me a Virgo. This is as far as I can get without doing any research, because it has been a long time since I read anything on this subject! So off to do a quick google search…

Blogtober, blogging challenge, living life our way
Virgo zodiac symbol

Right, I am back! According to Wikipedia, this is me…

“Astrologers ascribe certain personality traits to a person born under the Virgo: people born under this sign are typically analytical, kind, hardworking and practical. According to astrologers, Virgos tend to worry often; they are shy and dislike being the center of attention. They are also known for being modest, faithful, quiet, and very persuasive, as well as a good sense of reasoning and memory. Virgos are also known for their intellect and usually enjoy art, literature, science, mathematics, and are skilled at completing detailed work.

In addition I also read that Virgos like to be clean and orderly, but are also flexible, helpful and stable. Virgo is also an earth sign; key characteristics being grounded and ‘real’, realistic and practical, stable and likes stability (not keen on change), dependable, materialistic and sometimes superficial.

So, does this fit with my personality? Hmmm. No, not really. There are a couple of traits that I would say are accurate, some fairly indifferent and some that are most definitely not me. But I will leave you to guess which trait is which! lol 😉

I would say I actually identify more with the traits listed for water signs; sensitive, emotional, intuitive etc… And incidently, I have never looked up my daughter’s zodiac sign, and, after reading all of the descriptions, I never would have guessed which she was without checking the dates to find out!

I do feel that if you list enough vaguely descriptive words that people will choose to pick out the ones that fit, if they so wish. Or find those which don’t, as the case might be! I think in reality some traits will match any given person and some won’t, I don’t people fit neatly into any boxes. We are all unique individuals. And on the one hand, we are who we are… but on the otherhand, we can also change dramatically and evolve as we grow through life too.

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 15: Timeline Of My Day

For most people this is probably a really straightforward one but our lifestyle is abit different due to Squiggle’s needs. We tend to have very loose routines, which can be easily adjusted as required, rather than a tight schedule. We enjoy the freedom and flexibility that home education allows, to do things at our own pace and go with the flow when needed. This really helps Squiggle feel able to actually do more, without too much pressure.

Childhood unplugged, education happens everywhere, freedom to learn, home education, get outside, outdoor life, kids need nature

Squiggle does have a very simple but fairly rigid evening routine though. We have dinner, tidy up, bedtime snack, brush hair, strokes with one of our cats, clean teeth and goes to bed. This is a routine that she has developed herself, to help her to feel ready to sleep.

I have blogged about our home ed week before so this theme ties in with that. You can read more here. We love our lifestyle!

#Blogtober 2016 – Day 14: Meaning Behind My Blog Name

I came up with my blog name because I felt it described our lifestyle and what my blog is about quite well. It really is exactly what we are doing on a daily basis; living life our way!

I will be interested to read the inspiration behind other people’s blog names too!

#Blogtober 2016 – Day One: Who Are You?

Hi everyone!

I’m taking part in #Blogtober16 (at the 11th hour I might add!) so today is all about ME!!! For those who don’t know, blogtober 2016 is 31 days of posts with a different set theme each day, hosted by www.hexmumblog.com

#Blogtober16

I am also doing the Project Green Challenge too this month so October is a busy month for me, and I am really just hoping to at least sort of keep up with both… eek! #PGC2016 is an inspiring (and life- changing) intiative set up by Turning Green. Each challenge starts at 6am PT (2pm here in UK) so I am hoping the time difference will work in my favour. (Of course I could also schedule some of my Blogtober posts, but I am not that organised!)

So anyway, about me…

My about us page probably sums me up quite well, so I will begin by cheating abit and sending you off to look there…

livinglifeourway.com/about-us

Ok, so aside from that, here are 3 random facts about me…

1. As soon as I finished my A Levels, I moved to Tenerife to work as a club PR for a season. It was hard work 7 nights per week and I barely made enough for basic food rations but had the time of my life! I find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe that was almost 20 years ago now.

2. I have a scar across my forehead from an accident aged 4 years old, when I tripped over my own feet, smashing my head open on our coffee table. I also fractured my arm by falling off the top of a toddler slide when I was 10 and landing badly. These are possibly two of the most cringy-worthy ways of sustaining an injury; when people ask about my scar I would at least like a cool Harry Potter style story to tell lol!

3. I LOVE music, absolutely love it. But sadly don’t actually have a musical note in my entire body; I can’t play an instrument and am totally tone deaf. This somewhat shattered my childhood dream of being in a band!

What else do you want to know? If you have a specific question then please post in comments and I will answer you.

I  would also love for you to share a random fact about yourself too, leave in comments or tweet me @followourpath

I look forward to reading!
